American Man

Boss said, I'm sorry but, today's your last day of work.
They're closing down the factory. We're moving overseas.
Now you are free to go. Save your tears for the ride back home.
After 25 years your loyalty don't mean a damn thing.
In this land of freedom they say that you can have it all
but all the shops on Main Street are closing down their doors.
Remember when you used to buy me drinks. Didn’t we own this
town? and I was one of your biggest fans
American Man
American Man
Pick your daughter up from school. Tell her to follow the rules.
But now it seems the rules have changed in the middle of the game
So you put on your suit and tie, clutching your resume
Knocking on doors, trying to find a job that’s going to pay
In this land of freedom they say that you can have it all
but all the shops on Main Street are closing down their doors.
Remember when you used to buy me drinks. Didn’t we own this
town? and I was one of your biggest fans.

American Man
In this land of freedom they say that you can have it all
but all the shops on Main Street are closing down their doors.
Remember when you used to buy me drinks? Didn’t we own this
town? and I was one of your biggest fans, Yes, I’m still one of your biggest fans,
American Man

My Mother And Me
04:18
|
|||
She scoops the sand in the palm of her hand. Her nails are
colored cherry red.
Her scarf is dancing in the wind as seagulls circle overhead.
She cups her hands and shouts, “don’t go in too deep”
my mother and me
my mother and me
She’s measuring my waist for a pattern she will make.
She found it in a catalogue for girl’s pajamas.
And the fabric will be white with kittens in blue yarn.
I have the vision in my head. She sends me off to bed.
To the tap tap tap of the sewing machine I will sleep.
My mother and me
My mother and me
She was my first love. She was that perfect summer day you hope
will never end. She was my friend.
We pull up to the school after hours on the road
To the dormitory. She carries my bags for me.
And I am wearing jeans ripped along the knees ‘cause now I
challenge everything she ever taught me.
We start into a fight and I’ll prove that I am right and she is
wrong ‘cause I am young and strong.
Now I’m feeling like a fool.
And I miss her too
my mother and me

Telling Georgia Goodbye
04:04
|
|||
He flew in on the red-eye to Atlanta
Headed further south to say his final farewell
Driving in a rental car through cotton fields
Wiping the tears from his eyes, following the yellow line
Remembering peaches and the smoke from his pipe
Telling Georgia goodbye
She’s sitting on her front porch in a nightgown
Holding her head in her hands while the rain pours down
He could always tell her when a hurricane was coming in
He knew this land like the palm of his hand
And though I, no I’m never going back again
And though I have no reason to return
I’m flying out where the seasons are all changing
and so am I
Telling Georgia goodbye
Telling Georgia goodbye
Over the borderline where the red clay ends the sand
begins. Under the Spanish moss a newborn cross
And though I, no I’m never going back again
And though I have no reason to return
I’m flying out where the seasons are all changing
and so am I
Telling Georgia goodbye
Telling Georgia goodbye

Cowboy From Queens
03:25
|
|||
I was born of pines & red clay Winn-Dixie & church on Sundays
Fireflies lighting up a front porch swing
But I headed north in July to that Manhattan skyline
Had to try & fly & spread my wings
He road in on a steel horse like a hurricane
I knew right then I’d never be the same
The cowboy from Queens could never rope me in
We were wild as the wind and just as free
Now the sun is rising on my empty bed
I miss the cowboy.
No ties to bind us together. No promises of forever
He sat on the couch & played my guitar
With a towel wrapped around his waist
& a mischievous smile on his face
He drank my last wine. I didn’t mind
He said “I’m moving to LA. Why don’t you come with me?”
We’d wake up to the sunshine every day
The cowboy from Queens could never rope me in
We were wild as the wind and just as free
Now the sun is rising on my empty bed
I miss the cowboy.
And you’ll always be a hero to me, but I know the way
the movie ends.
I should’ve told him I loved him while I had the chance.
He waved to the sky and got on that tarmac.
The cowboy from Queens could never rope me in
We were wild as the wind and just as free
Now the sun is rising on my empty bed
I miss the cowboy
I miss the cowboy
I miss the cowboy
from Queens.

Tides
03:16
|
|||
Thinking back to our innocence
Long before I ever saw your face
When you were a dream I’d yet to meet
In my silent walks along the beach
It was so easy loving you
Like the waves that crash along the shore
but tides they ebb and flow
and I do not love you anymore
They all said it was bound to end
You’re living in a world of fantasy
But I still danced with you against the wind
Until the day I knew you’d set me free
It was so easy loving you
Like the waves that crash along the shore
but tides they ebb and flow
and I do not love you anymore
We’re at the water's edge of time & memory
I’ve come to set you free
It was so easy loving you
Like the waves that crash along the shore
but tides they ebb and flow
and I do not love you anymore
